Support meetings

DATE: We meet on the third Friday of each month, in The Qube (entrance off the back parking lot, see map here)
TIME: 7:00pm to 10:00pm
LOCATION: The Rainbow Resource Centre, 170 Scott Street (at Wardlaw), Winnipeg

Intro

Our gatherings are informal. There is no dress code and there are no expectations about gender appearance. They are intended to offer an opportunity to meet and chat with others who understand what it means to be transgender.

Rules

We have only one rule at our gatherings, and that is to respect others. Anything that is shared is confidential.

That, and, you must be 18 years of age or older to attend. If you are under 18, we suggest you check out the programming at the Rainbow Resource Centre geared specifically for youth.

Format

Our meetings usually take the following form.

  • Introductions
  • Sharing circle
Attendees take turns relating what has been happening in their lives. There is no pressure to speak about anything you are not comfortable with. Say as little or as much as you like. This is also a good time to ask questions or seek advice from the group. Unless there is a guest speaker, this is usually how we begin our meetings.
  • Break
At about the midpoint of the meeting we usually have a 15 to 20 minute break.
  • Discussion topic and/or guest speaker
The moderator will have a topic for discussion, or the group can decide upon one. Suggestions are welcome. We have had numerous guest speakers such as doctors, psychologists, electrologists, etc. If there is a guest speaker, they will usually be first on the agenda (after the introductions).

    • Topics and/or guest speakers are posted on the Events page as soon as they become known (roll your mouse over the meeting date).
  • News/information
The final item is usually community news and info the moderator and others have to share.
